Raspberry Ketones have quite a bit of buzz around them just now...and I got swept away in the frenzy. After reading all the amazing celeb stories I was more than intrigued to try these out. Not to mention a nod from Dr Oz himself, who frequented Oprah regularly, so his word was solid to me. (I have blind faith in Oprah, I don't know why, I just do)
Off I went with high hopes for the raspberry future.
Lets break this down...
So what are Raspberry Ketones? They are raspberry supplements you take with food that claim to speed metabolism and reduce your appetite. Apparently 90lbs of raspberries would need to be consumed in order to get the same level of Ketones two 100mg capsules can offer you. The ingredients are as follows: Raspberry Ketones, Gelatine, Maltodextrin, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Silicon Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate. I have no idea what any of the above are, (maybe that should of been a sign not to take them) but I had read that as long as they had no caffeine (again are any of the above caffeine?!) you were good to go. As far as I can see there is no caffeine, so I started popping those bad boys twice a day.
Dosage? Two 100mg capsules twice a day. One with your breakfast and one at lunch, you are advised to not take these too late in the day as they can effect sleep (no joke!)
Appearance? Pleasant smelling white capsules that you barely notice taking.
All sounds pretty legit and above board right? Let me stop you right there before you get swept up like I did.
Yes, these capsules are full of hope that it will give you a little push in the right direction that you have been needing, but there is plenty not written on the bottle. Sleepless nights, headaches, fainting not great selling points. Note, when I say sleepless I mean wide awake at 3am with work the next day. Not fun.
So while I was operating on virtually no sleep and my sister commenting on how I looked "as rough as hell" I decided to work out. Do not do this if you are taking raspberry ketones. Not long after starting I was passed out on the floor and spent the next few hours trying to lower my heart rate, stop being sick and remain conscious.
It was at this point that I decided raspberry ketones were not working for me and were actually working against my body.
I have now stopped taking them for about 6 days and I am starting to sleep better and generally feel well again. It's not until you stop them that you realise how out of sorts you were. If you like sleepless nights, headaches, fainting, being sick and a racing heart then be my guest buy a bottle and go nuts. But my advise to the majority is ignore all the buzz around raspberry ketones grab your trainers and go back to basics!
And yes, I feel slightly lied to by Dr Oz but still love Oprah.
I'm always so weary of these kind of supplements-they are so dangerous and people don't realise..Glad you are feeling better though x
