Fail To Prepare, Then Prepare To Fail

Sunday, 7 April 2013

Fail to prepare, then prepare to fail is a saying my Gran Watson use to say to me while I was studying for my exams at school. To be honest it never really rang true with me then as I wasn't the best studier and was too busy planning Proms and Yearbooks. But, I now find myself saying this quietly to myself quite often. This saying is never truer than if you try to Eat Clean, which I try to do.

I started eating clean a few months ago as a couple of girls in work were eating this way, and my little bowl of tinned soup looked pretty nasty compared to their lovely lunches. So I decided to try it out and I have to say once you start it kind of consumes you!

I now find myself making batches of chicken, mince and vegetables on a Sunday and looking forward to lunches and dinners. I find to make this way of eating work, you really need to prepare otherwise you won't eat clean and you will end up hating it and finding it really difficult. That said, all my prep usually only takes about an hour.

Now, I am in no way a professional clean eater (if that's a thing) but this blog will fill you in on some of the recipes I follow. I am not sure if clean eating and Paleo are the same, but I tend to merge the two and use a lot of Paleo recipes. Usually I will start with cooking some chicken breasts and shredding them up so as they can be stirred into different dressings. I will also make some small burgers or meatballs with some mince. I add herbs like thyme, coriander to the burgers along with some onion and garlic. Bind it all together with an egg and you are good to go on the burger/meatball front.

I mentioned dressings, and I will post a link to some of the recipes I follow below, but I tend to stick with salsa, guacamole or salad dressings. Again I follow all paleo recipes with sauces and dressings.

What I have I noticed when I eat like this? Firstly lets just say I am no saint and can be very easily lead by a Percy Pig. But, the difference eating like this can do really is amazing. I sleep better, your skin is so much more healthier looking. Eating vegetables at lunch does fill you up a LOT more and keeps your energy on an even keel. Not to mention the difference on your waistline.

So, ok I get easily lead by a few fancy treats. But for me this is a new way of life and I am still learning but I am not going to be excluding sugar or sweets for the rest of my life, can you even imagine how sad you would be. Far too many Easter eggs still needing to be ate for that, so who cares if you have a few here and there! 80/20 or there about is my moto.

Throw in some hill sprints and some resistance training and that is pretty much where I am right now.
